Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) - The Zephyr®
The Zephyr® Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) is an ultra-lightweight carbon aircraft powered by solar energy generated by amorphous silicon arrays covering the aircraft’s wings, no thicker than sheets of paper. The aircraft uses a bespoke autopilot system to navigate between waypoints eliminating the need for permanent manual operation. Applications for Zephyr® include earth observation and communication relay. Zephyr® set an endurance record in August 2008 by staying airborne for three and a half days and achieving the longest duration unmanned flight to date.
