LAST Armor
Field Installable Appliqué Armor System
QinetiQ North America offers a complete line of add-on armor products to meet your performance, cost, and weight objectives. LAST® add-on armor is available in metal, ceramic, metal and composite, and ceramic composite versions.
LAST Armor is a unique add-on appliqué system that installs without any cutting, welding or drilling on the base vehicle. It is designed to be easily added to tactical vehicles and aircrafts. QinetiQ North America is the largest producer of add-on aircraft armor in the world.
LAST Vehicle Armor
LAST tactical vehicle armor kits can be sent forward to deployed vehicles and the simple installation can be performed by the crew themselves. The basic system upgrades protection levels from typical 7.62 mm ball to 0.50 Cal./12.7 mm and 14.5 mm API as well as offers protection from conventional overhead threats such as 155 mm/152 mm fragmenting artillery air bursts and mortar fire. LAST Spall Liners are designed to be used to supplement Tactical Vehicle Armor kits for increased protection against fragments.
- Easily installed/removed by soldiers without tools, eliminating the need to re-conduct expensive qualification testing and accelerating delivery schedules
- Modular, removable and lightweight — half the weight of metallic armor
- Can be installed as a retrofit to an existing vehicle platform or installed in the production cycle, reducing manufacturing time at least fourfold
- Complements previously installed armor and is responsive to changing threats
- Field proven
LAST Aircraft Armor
Aircraft armor kits designed and manufactured by QinetiQ North America are based on the same simplified logistics support philosophy as the armor kits for land vehicles. No aircraft modifications are necessary to install LAST aircraft armor kits and the kits are logistically completely self-contained. They can be installed in forward austere locations if necessary by the aircraft flight crew using only the materials provided in the kit. The complete add-on armor system can be transferred from one aircraft to another within one hour.
The aircraft armor kits can be designed to provide protection against any reasonable threat; however, the most common protection level is small arms up to and including 7.62 mm AP and steel core ball rounds such as the 7.62 mm x 54R, LPS. The areal density of the system is approximately 37 kilograms per square meter (8 pounds per square foot).
Expertise in Action
LAST Armor kits built for the Lockheed C-130 use the exact same armor parts as kits built for the Lockheed C-141 and McDonnell Douglas C-17 as well as various rotary wing/vertical lift aircraft such as the H-60 and Bell 212. For United States government customers, LAST Aircraft Armor is available via GSA Advantage™.
