Software safety engineering

We are a leader in software safety engineering for requirements, design, coding, testing, operation and maintenance of safety-critical software. Our system safety engineers identify not only system hazards but the individual failure modes and their causes. We identify the causes and derive requirements to eliminate, control, or mitigate the hazard to an acceptable level of risk. Software safety engineering is appropriate where software performs safety-critical or mission-critical functions.

Solutions for the Military, Utilities & Industry

Our engineering capabilities extend to integrating mechanical, electrical, electronic, fluid, and thermal components into custom military systems such as bridges, nuclear power plant maintenance, chemical decontamination, aircraft launch and recovery, mine countermeasures, and lightweight armor.

We have developed equipment, systems and technology to support the utility industry for more than 25 years, from power generation and distribution to utility maintenance in the United States and overseas. Our technology supports conventional and nuclear power plants, power management, and plant maintenance needs.

Since most of our customers ask us to develop new processes and custom equipment, they expect us to take into consideration how custom equipment would fit into the overall production system and what standard commercial equipment is available. We meet these expectations by evaluating an entire system before we present recommendations for improvement, optimization, and custom equipment

Expertise in action

At the Software Engineering Directorate (SED), Aviation and Missile, Research and Development Engineering Center (AMRDEC)– we design, develop, engineer, test, and accredit software used in air and ballistic missile defense, fire support, close combat, aviation, C4 interoperability, ISR and automatic test equipment. These wide ranging projects improve the effectiveness and reliability of software used in helicopters, tanks, personnel carriers and other military systems.
