Systems Integration / Systems Engineering
Software engineering
At QinetiQ North America, we provide comprehensive and cost-effective expertise in software engineering. For example, we have been providing software development and integration services for the US Navy’s Tomahawk Command & Control System for over 20 years, sensor integration software development for the US Marine Corps for over 10 years, and service oriented architecture based capabilities development for the Office of the Secretary of Defense the past 2 years.
Software safety engineering
We are a leader in software safety engineering for requirements, design, coding, testing, operation and maintenance of safety-critical software. Our system safety engineers identify not only system hazards but the individual failure modes and their causes. We identify the causes and derive requirements to eliminate, control, or mitigate the hazard to an acceptable level of risk. Software safety engineering is appropriate where software performs safety-critical or mission-critical functions.
Systems engineering, integration and fielding
At QinetiQ North America, we provide comprehensive, cost-effective support and expertise in technology and business operations for system engineering solution development. We develop, design, build, test and manage systems and solutions to meet missions objectives. Our engineering services address a range of issues common to most system life-cycles, from determining mission needs, to development, fielding, and operational support.
We offer systems engineering, integration and performance analysis services that cover air, land, and sea. By focusing on our customers’ needs, we are able to provide solutions to even their most complex challenges.
System integration and integrated system solutions
With more than 50 years of experience, we know how to assemble systems that do not currently exist from components that do. A guiding principle within QinetiQ North America is to use what is available if it can do the job, because that is what serves our customers best. Our ability to provide integrated system solutions for manufacturing industries, utilities, and military customers is demonstrated daily in systems that combine electromechanical robotics, intelligent control software, miniature sensors, and powerful machinery to maximize performance and reduce development risk.

Solutions for the Military, Utilities & Industry
Our engineering capabilities extend to integrating mechanical, electrical, electronic, fluid, and thermal components into custom military systems such as bridges, nuclear power plant maintenance, chemical decontamination, aircraft launch and recovery, mine countermeasures, and lightweight armor.
We have developed equipment, systems and technology to support the utility industry for more than 25 years, from power generation and distribution to utility maintenance in the United States and overseas. Our technology supports conventional and nuclear power plants, power management, and plant maintenance needs.
Since most of our customers ask us to develop new processes and custom equipment, they expect us to take into consideration how custom equipment would fit into the overall production system and what standard commercial equipment is available. We meet these expectations by evaluating an entire system before we present recommendations for improvement, optimization, and custom equipment
Expertise in action
At the Software Engineering Directorate (SED), Aviation and Missile, Research and Development Engineering Center (AMRDEC)– we design, develop, engineer, test, and accredit software used in air and ballistic missile defense, fire support, close combat, aviation, C4 interoperability, ISR and automatic test equipment. These wide ranging projects improve the effectiveness and reliability of software used in helicopters, tanks, personnel carriers and other military systems.
